Microaggressions in the Workplace Course Overview:

While the phrase “microaggression” has been used by psychologists for over 50 years, it is now part of the broader conversation on workplace diversity, inclusion, and unconscious bias.

Microaggressions are insults, whether intentional or unintentional, that signal abusive, degrading, or negative messages to people based on their membership in a disadvantaged group. According to Dr. Derald Wing Sue, a professor of counseling psychology at Columbia University and a pioneer in the research of microaggressions, they are micro aggressions when they communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative slights and snubs to people because of their marginalized group membership.

In this course, we will explore the concept of microaggressions and their impact in the workplace. We will discuss how microaggressions can manifest themselves in the workplace and how they can have a negative impact on employees’ morale, job satisfaction, and productivity.
