Sustainability, Sustainable Development & Leadership
The goal of the e-course is to teach students how to confront the difficulties of a sustainable future. The program helps them develop into leaders and thinkers who are both aware of and concerned with the local and global community.
It does not solely focus on one discipline, but rather provides courses that introduce students to themes, methods, theories, and tools that are relevant in a variety of fields (e.g., economics, public administration, and diplomacy).
The program is interdisciplinary, which gives students the opportunity to explore different fields and better understand how they intersect.
This type of education is important because it prepares students to face the challenges of the 21st century. They learn how to think critically and work collaboratively with people from other backgrounds.
It does not solely focus on one discipline, but rather provides courses that introduce students to themes, methods, theories, and tools that are relevant in a variety of fields (e.g., economics, public administration, and diplomacy).
In response to the increasing demand for an interdisciplinary approach in teaching sustainable development, a group of graduate students from different universities developed a program with courses that consider the subject from multiple perspectives. The e-course is an alternative way to learn about sustainability because most colleges lack courses that fully address this topic. Furthermore, most programs have been developed with mature disciplines such as business management or engineering. These fields are not necessarily concerned with how their work affects society’s environmental well-being.
The goals of the e-course include:
• To become aware of the challenges we face regarding sustainability and develop a sense of civic duty;
• To acquire tools and knowledge necessary to confront these challenges;
• To understand how different disciplines intersect in the study of sustainability and develop skills in interdisciplinary collaboration.
The e-course is open to students from all backgrounds, including business, engineering, the sciences, and the humanities. Students will be able to explore a variety of fields and better understand how they intersect. The program also provides opportunities for students to work with professionals in the field.
The e-course is an important step towards creating leaders who are aware of and concerned with sustainability. It provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to confront the difficulties of a sustainable future. We need more programs like this if we want to address the complex challenges of 21st century.
